On Wednesday morning Staff Sgt. Melissa Taylor, a career counselor at the 2 nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, was sitting at her desk on base at Fort Stewart checking emails when she heard 1st Sgt. Joshua Arnold yell, “Gunshot!” outside her door. The former combat medic ran into the hall where she saw smoke at the end of the hallway and a wounded soldier lying on the ground. Without hesitation Taylor rendered aid while Arnold called for medical assistance.
On Thursday, members of the 2 nd Brigade were still processing the events of the day before as they gathered outside their headquarters to greet Army Secretary Dan Driscoll as he arrived to honor the soldiers and first responders for their quick response after one of their own opened fire on them in their place of work.
