Nine million state pensioners are getting a free £175 as well as the £300 Winter Fuel Payment reinstated. The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) has two additional perks for state pensioners this winter: the Warm Home Discount and the Cold Weather Payment scheme.

Around 2.7 million more families, including one million with children, will become eligible for the £150 Warm Home Discount this year. Currently, if you live in England and Wales you qualify for the Warm Home Discount if you either get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, or are on a means-tested benefit and have (or are deemed to have) 'high energy costs'.
