LAKE FOREST, Ill. (25 News/Associated Press) – The Chicago Bears want to start moving dirt this year toward construction of a domed stadium in suburban Arlington Heights.

But, it will take some big time help from the state legislature in the form of a mega-bill to make that happen.

Bears president Kevin Warren said Friday that the mega-bill the team wants would freeze property taxes for large scale construction projects, like a new stadium.

The Bears’ only target site is land the team owns on the former Arlington International Racecourse.

“The goal would still be to move dirt this year,” Warren said. “There’s still work, some initial work that needs to be done to get the site ready, but to hopefully break ground next year formally, but to actually move dirt this year.”
