A man has died following a collision on the A1 in North Yorkshire.

It happened at around 10.43pm yesterday (Friday 8 August) on the northbound carriageway at junction 51 near Leeming Bar / Bedale.

The incident involved a blue Suzuki hatchback and a blue Scania lorry, both travelling in the same direction.

The driver of the Suzuki was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed with diversions in place to allow emergency services to work safely at the scene.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone travelling in either direction who witnessed the crash or the vehicles in the moments before to get in touch.

The force is also appealing for dashcam footage of the collision or the moments leading up to it.
