Five people including a 14-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man was struck by a pick-up truck while crossing the road.

Officers were called to Burnley Road, in Crawshawbooth, Lancashire , close to its junction with York Street, following reports a Toyota Hilux Invincible had hit a pedestrian.

Lancashire Police say it was a Volkswagen Golf "was in close proximity to the Toyota at the time" of the incident which happened just after 10pm on Friday, 8 August.

A man in his 50s - who was crossing the road at the time he was struck - died at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody at this time, police said.
