I was very dismayed at the Loveland City Council’s ongoing effort to criminalize homelessness, most recently demonstrated at the Tuesday council meeting on Aug. 5, where Councilors Foley, Olson and McFall supported changes to city statutes that target our unhoused neighbors rather than protect them.

The council debated updates to municipal codes that effectively penalize individuals experiencing homelessness for occupying public spaces. These changes come without the necessary infrastructure, shelters, sanitation, case management, to ensure those punished have somewhere humane to go.
