In the early summer of 2020, Eric Brunner tripped over his feet during a run, but didn't think much of it. The Philadelphia dad and artist, now 38, assumed he was clumsy because he was tired from raising a toddler while working from home during the COVID-19 lockdown.

At 32, Eric Brunner was the picture of health. “I was super active, I would run every other day and ride flat track motorcycles," he tells TODAY.com in an interview, his speech slowed.

Apart from some broken bones during his years of extreme sports, Eric Brunner hadn’t had any major health issues. He never struggled with his balance or coordination, as evidenced by his prowess in motorcycling racing.
