On December 17, 1903, brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright conducted the first known manned flight in human history from the sandy dunes of Kitty Hawk, located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This first flight paved the way for a revolution in aeronautics, with the United States successfully sending people to the moon and back less than 66 years later.

Flying has since become a common activity for people of all income levels, with millions of people embarking on flights every day. Space travel is slowly opening up to the public as well, with pop star Katy Perry going to space in April 2025.
