The Brief

The GBI identified 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White of Kennesaw as the suspected active shooter near Emory University and the CDC.

The incident, which also claimed the life of DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose, prompted a large multi-agency response and shut down the surrounding area for hours.

More than 90 children and multiple CDC employees were unable to leave the area during the lockdown but were eventually reunited with families or allowed to go home.
