The Kinross Township Volunteer Fire Department has been given a reprieve with their fire hall lease with the Chippewa County Economic Corporation (CCEDC).

The current fire hall is located at the Chippewa County International Airport next to the General Aviation Terminal.

The lease on the fire hall was set to expire on Nov. 1, leaving the township and and fire department scrambling to where they would move their fire trucks and gear.

Earlier this week, Chris Olson, Executive Director of the CCEDC, extended the lease until April 1, 2026.

At that time, the fire hall will be use exclusively by the airport per FAA regulations to house a dedicated fire truck for the airport. The building will also be used as a firefighting training facility.
