Track and field championships have been in full swing over the past few weeks as the summer comes to an end. While many Flagstaff-based athletes have had strong showings this year at the professional level, one local pole vaulter posted an impressive start to his young career.

Weeks before Blaise McCallie started his freshman year at Flagstaff High School, he won gold at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Championships in the 13-14 age group in Georgia.
