CYNTHIANA, Ind. (WFIE) - The United States Geological Survey has reported a small earthquake hit the Tri-State.

According to the USGS, a magnitude 2.6 quake hit about 10:06 p.m. Friday, near Cynthiana.

The epicenter of the quake is reported to be 18.8 kilometers down, or about 11.6 miles.

57 responses were made to the USGS of people being able to feel the earthquake, with some stretching down South towards Evansville, and as far East as Warrick County.

The Tri-State is in the Illinois basin - Ozark dome region, which borders the New Madrid seismic zone.

The region covers parts of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas and stretches from Indianapolis and St. Louis to Memphis.

USGS says Moderately frequent earthquakes occur at irregular intervals throughout the region.
