Immigration rights were at the forefront of Michael Dougherty’s “Lunch and Learn” presentation in Grand Junction on Wednesday.

The Boulder County district attorney, a Democrat running to be Colorado’s next attorney general, visited Grand Junction for a campaign stop, where he talked about his legal career and values. He hosted an event at the Mesa County Central Library where he largely talked about Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) while also touching on gun laws and hate crimes.

Dougherty began by stating his opposition to private prisons, of which there are two in Colorado, on the basis that they lack incentive to properly rehabilitate inmates.
