Kids in the Pellston area have a chance to experience flight up close with free airplane rides at the Pellston Regional Airport.

The event, scheduled to run from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, is open to children ages 8 to 17, according to a community announcement.

The Harbor Springs chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) organized the event as part of its participation in the national Young Eagles program. Local licensed pilots who are members of the chapter will donate both their time and airplanes for the flights. Parents are encouraged to register their children online in advance and are required to accompany each child at the airport.

After their flights, each participant will receive an EAA pilot logbook and a certificate signed by the pilot.
