A new study has ranked all 50 states for how likely it is to see shooting stars and asteroids. Three meteor showers are happening now. Know the nights in August when you have the best chance of seeing them in Mississippi .

Action Network looked at criteria like elevation and the number of fireballs reported so far this year to determine the list. They also considered the Bortle score for dark-sky areas.

The Perseid is the most famous of the three summer meteor showers. It runs from about July 17 to Aug. 23, according to the American Meteor Society .

The alpha Capricornids and Delta Aquariid Meteor Shower are in progress but winding down. Both will be active through about Aug. 12, according to the American Meteor Society .
