SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The city of Springfield came alive on Saturday with the African Community Festival, celebrating heritage, pride, and culture.

Appliance stores see business boom during tax-free weekend

The Unity Hearts Foundation hosted its third annual celebration, kicking off at noon at Marshall Roy Park. It featured live performances, traditional dances, and unique dishes from across the African continent.

"We have to know where we come from," said Mercy Addo of Springfield. "We see different cultures all over from Africa. I think it's something very great."

Some drove in from East Hartford, Connecticut, to honor their West African heritage. The festival is also known for its annual cookout.
