A long-contested contract agreement with the Fairbanks Firefighters Union goes before the Fairbanks City Council Monday night.
The proposed agreement settles nearly two years of negotiations, a rejected three-year agreement, mediation and federal arbitration agreements.
The City Council rejected a proposed agreement on Nov. 18, 2024, in a 4-3 vote following a heated debate. At that meeting, Mayor David Pruhs maintained that the city could not afford the contract, along with the claim that union negotiators were not serious about labor talks and “gave us no middle ground.”
