STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — To commemorate the 58th anniversary of the passing of the Rev. Vincent R. Capodanno, Auxiliary Bishop Peter Byrne, pastor of Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, will be the main celebrant at a memorial Mass to honor the late priest in the chapel that bears his name at Fort Wadsworth.

The Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31.

A solemn ceremony following the Mass will be conducted outdoors by members of the Sgt. Angel Mendez Marine Corps League Detachment 246 — next to the statue of Father Capodanno.

Members of the FDNY Color Guard Ceremonial Unit will present the American flag.

A reading of Father Capodanno’s Congressional Medal of Honor citation will be followed by a rifle volley and the playing of Taps.

The Mass, open to all, will include the 4th Deg
