Fantastic Four was denied a threepeat atop the box office, as new release Weapons took in $42.5 million to take first place. The well-reviewed film exceeded estimates, and is a reminder that horror is a box office winner more often than not.
Freakier Friday came in second place with $29 million, around what it was estimated to bring in. It also had good reviews from critics and audiences, setting it up for repeat business.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps followed in third place with $15 million. This is a disappointing drop for the film, which has made $230 million domestically and will likely make less than Superman overall.
In fourth place was animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 with $10.4 million. In fifth place was The Naked Gun with $8.3 million, for a $33 million total domes
