The trip follows the federal government's own attempt to repair ties with Mexico and unify on bilateral trade in the wake of Trump's tariffs

On the heels of Ottawa’s attempts to repair ties with Mexico, Premier Danielle Smith has announced her own intentions to build bridges with a key trade counterpart during a three-day visit starting Sunday.

The trip, announced Friday by the premier’s office, will be focused on identifying investment and trade opportunities in Alberta and Mexico’s agriculture and energy sectors. Smith will also champion the province as a trade partner with strengths in agrifood, forestry, technology, tourism and manufacturing, according to a release.
