The San Francisco 49ers went into Saturday’s preseason game against the Denver Broncos with an already depleted running back room. However, Ameer Abdullah left with a rib injury. Isaac Guerendo and Jordan James were already out, which meant San Francisco was likely to add a running back to its roster this week.
Before Saturday’s game, the 49ers signed running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn. They also had a visit from running back Deon Jackson. But a familiar face is back in the fold instead of Jackson. Per his agency, the 49ers signed Jeff Wilson, who had been a free agent after spending the last 2.5 seasons with the Miami Dolphins.
Wilson, 29, requested a trade from the 49ers after he saw the writing on the wall. San Francisco pushed their chips into the middle and acquired Christian McCaffrey. T
