Lynchburg Regional Airport has been working on acquiring new flights to new airports. Still, their recent conversations with United stopped any flights to Washington Dulles International Airport in its tracks, after the Star Alliance carrier told them there is a lack of available gates or slots at the US Capital airport.

Lynchburg, located in western Virginia, is around three and a half hours by road to Washington, DC (180 miles or 290 kilometers). Currently, the airport has just one scheduled commercial service, which is with American Eagle (American Airlines), direct to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).
