GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Tomorrow marks the beginning of the school year for students in North Central Florida, and a Gainesville congregation celebrated this milestone with a special “Backpack Blessing” service.
Children, students, and even older generations participated in the event, bringing their backpacks and reflecting on the upcoming school year.
James Chase, Director of Lifespan Faith Development at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Gainesville, emphasized the importance of such rituals.
“Having set landmarks throughout the year that children can look forward to is really important for their faith, but it’s also crucial for kids to feel connected to the community and to know they are loved,” he said.
