An early-morning house fire in the Dr. Phillips area injured dozens of cats on Sunday, the Orange County Fire Rescue Department said.

Around 6:30 a.m. firefighters were called to the 4900 block of Spring Run Avenue, the agency said. Upon their arrival they found heavy fire coming from the roof of the home, OCFRD said.

The fire was put out but by early Sunday afternoon firefighters were still conducting fire watches to check for reignitions, spokesperson Elyssa Walterson said in an email.

No injuries were reported but the firefighters did remove multiple cats from the burning home, although their status could not be confirmed, Walterson said.

It’s unclear how many cats were removed from the home and if they survived. Originally Published: August 10, 2025 at 4:37 PM EDT
