CLARK COUNTY, Ind. — A Clark County, Indiana man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife.

Stephen Gower, 53, originally told police his wife Christina Gower committed suicide.

The incident happened on Aug. 4 when Charlestown Police responded to the couple’s home in the10400 block of Charlestown New Market Road where Stephen claimed Christina shot herself.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Charlestown Police noted Stephen said, “take me to jail” and “shoot me” to responding officers.

According to court documents, Stephen told investigators he believed it would be “easier to go to jail than explain the incident to his children and his wife’s family.”

Stephen admitted to investigators the couple had been drinking and fighting before the shooting.
