Portions of the Parkway East, including the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, reopened Sunday evening after closures in both directions that began Saturday night for construction.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, around 6:30 p.m., eastbound I-376 reopened to one lane of traffic.
Westbound I-376 remains closed. In a news release last week, PennDOT estimated the road will fully reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
The closure is between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange.
PennDOT said the closure is to allow crews to demolish and replace an overhead sign structure. It’s part of a broader $95 million project to replace the Commercial Street Bridge over Frick Park.
