AKRON, N.Y. — State Police in Lockport are investigating the death of a 17-year-old teen after he allegedly went swimming in a pond and did not resurface.

The incident happened after 5pm Sunday near Deer View Drive in the Town of Royalton.

Several first responders went into the water to try and locate the teen. The NYSP Under Water Recovery Team and members of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team also searched the pond.

The teen's body was found just before 9pm in about 10 feet of water. His body was taken to the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. Police say there are no signs of foul play.

The name of the teen is not being released at this time.
