BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Professional Pickleball Association’s Veolia Bristol Open ended up being headlined by a couple of teenage sensations from the Sunshine State.
John Lucian Goins, a 17-year-old from Bradenton, Florida, earned his first PPA men’s singles title on Sunday afternoon at the Bristol Sportsplex on Raytheon Road.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Anna Leigh Waters of Delray Beach, Florida, was on the championship-winning women’s doubles and mixed doubles teams.
It was just a typical weekend for Waters, one of the most decorated pickleball players in the world and both the doubles teams she was on were seeded first.
For Goins, it was a major milestone moment, and he was far from the favorite entering the tournament.
