A leading pharmacist is urging parents to keep a close eye on children playing outdoors this week as the UK is set for another heatwave. George Sandhu, Deputy Superintendent at Well Pharmacy, warns that children are more at risk of overheating or heatstroke than adults because their bodies are less able to regulate temperature.
Too much time in the sun can lead to heat exhaustion in both children and adults – but if that is not combated quickly, it can lead to heatstroke and must be treated as a medical emergency. It comes as the UK is set for a renewed round of roasting weather with the mercury rising through the week to 29C on Monday, and remaining in the high 20s and even mid-30s for some throughout the week.
