A Mega Millions player in California won $4,607,223, just missing the $166 million jackpot, lottery officials said.

The ticket matched five winning numbers with a 3x multiplier in the drawing Friday, Aug. 8, California Lottery officials said.

The winning ticket was sold at Spirits World Liquor in Tarzana, which is about a 20-mile drive northwest from downtown Los Angeles, lottery officials said.

The winning numbers were 2, 6, 8, 14 and 49 with a Mega Ball of 12, the lottery said.

Mega Millions jackpot rises

Nobody won the grand prize, which now rises to an estimated $182 million , with a cash option of approximately $82.1 million, for the next drawing Tuesday, Aug. 12, the national Mega Millions site said.
