The Brooklyn community came together Saturday morning to bid farewell to Aland Etienne – the unarmed security guard killed during last month’s Midtown Manhattan shooting. It was the final funeral of the four victims. Family, friends and fellow security workers, many wearing purple ribbons to represent their union, attended the service at Guarino Funeral Home. Loved ones described Etienne as a devoted father and a hero who dedicated his life to protecting others. “He’s part of a brotherhood—just like the NYPD, FDNY and EMS,” said fellow security guard and doorman Michael Nared.
