Elizabeth Motorcyclist Killed After Colliding With Vehicle In Newark: Prosecutor

A 40-year-old Elizabeth motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Newark on Saturday, Aug. 9, authorities said.

At 5:15 p.m., a motorcycle was traveling westbound on Thomas Street at an increased rate of speed when it collided with the bumper of a 2024 Acura and lost control, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Leandro Cardoso Da Costa was pronounced dead at University Hospital, authorities said. The driver of the Acura and his passenger were not injured, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
