Drivers have been warned to remove lanyards from around their necks when they get behind the wheel of a car — or risk serious injury. Lanyards are commonly worn in workplaces and by students for quick identification and for access through secure doors and gates.

But experts warn that you could face serious injury if you drive while wearing one. In a Facebook post, Dorset Police Volunteers said there had been a number of serious driving injuries linked to lanyards.

They wrote: "There have been a couple of serious traffic accidents of note (not within Dorset Police) where the wearing of identity lanyards around the drivers' necks has exacerbated the severity of the injuries sustained. This type of accident is fortunately unlikely, however staff, officers and volunteers should be aware
