CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A Lowcountry lawyer is stepping into the race for Governor, marking the first Democratic candidate to announce a gubernatorial campaign.

Mullins McLeod, a Charleston injury attorney, announced his run Monday , presenting himself as a choice for South Carolinians looking for “faith-driven servant leadership as a cure to the cancer of corruption now in power.”

“The establishment in Columbia does not want us to know they have sold us out to their special corporate interests. I can beat corruption because I am not tempted by corporate interest money. I don’t need it,” McLeod says. “I can do the work to protect and promote our beautiful state by relying on my faith, and my commitment to both transparency and fiscal conservatism.”
