WARREN The Trumbull County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a phone scam targeting residents.
The scam involves callers claiming to be sheriff's deputies or jury commission staff telling would-be victims that they failed to appear to jury duty and could pay a fine in order to avoid jail time.
The sheriff's office is reminding Trumbull County residents that no employee with the sheriff's office or the courts will contact a potential juror by phone unless authorized by the juror and would never request personal finance information.
If you are called to jury duty, you will receive a summons in the mail, rather than a phone call.
If you do receive a call like this, you're asked to hang up and not call back if they leave you a message.
