More than $1 million is now available in city grant funding to support the city's unhoused population, according to a news release from the Louisville Metro Office of Social Services.

Nonprofits including 24-hour emergency shelters, temporary extreme weather shelters and intensive case management programs can apply for a portion of the $1.2 million in the Homelessness Initiative Fund administered through the office. Applications are open from Aug. 11 until Aug. 29 and will be reviewed in early September.

Louisville Metro Government created the fund in 2019 to provide provide low-barrier shelter options to vulnerable populations in a mission to "addresses homelessness in a coordinated and comprehensive manner," according to the office's website .
