While high school football is in swing, the “Boys of Summer’" are still captivating the Midlands’ attention.

This past week, two Little League baseball programs looked to keep alive World Series dreams.

After winning the American Legion state title, Richland Post 215 headed to Asheboro, N.C. for the Southeast Region. It won the tournament opener 10-0 over Puerto Rico on Aug. 6 led by Alvin Murray of Cardinal Newman’s two home runs and seven RBI.

Richland fell into the loser’s bracket the next day after it was defeated 3-1 by Asheville Post 70. Hours later, it rebounded with a 13-4 win over host team Randolph County (N.C.). Jacob Muir accounted for three of the team’s 11 hits, three by Jacob Muir, Tyler Hernandez had three RBI and Murray, Muir, and Zach Snead each drove in two runs.
