A recent Dear Annie column featured a concerned mother seeking guidance on how to address favoritism shown to her daughter over her son by his grandparents , who are also her former in-laws.

The mom describes a pattern of her son being left out while his sister receives invitations and attention.

In one instance, he was told his foster grandmother would be out of town when he asked to visit and swim, only for his sister to be invited for an overnight stay and swim just two days later.

Additionally, both sides of the family forgot his birthday entirely, despite celebrating his sister’s birthday the month before. Though he pretends not to be affected, his mother can see these exclusions are causing him emotional pain.
