The Perseid meteor shower ranks amongst the finest annual meteor displays of the year, renowned for its impressive hourly rate of brilliant 'shooting stars'. This year, the Perseids commenced on July 17 and will continue to be observable until August 24.

The peak occurs during the night of August 12-13, delivering up to 100 meteors. The Royal Observatory Greenwich characterises the spectacle as amongst the "most dramatic" sights to witness in the sky.

Just days prior to the Perseids reaching their zenith, a full Moon will illuminate the night sky, reports the Manchester Evening News .
