Invest 97L in Atlantic could become Tropical Storm Erin

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The peak of hurricane season is a month away, and the tropics are starting to get active, especially in the Atlantic.

August and September are known to be active when it comes to hurricane season, and the peak of hurricane season is a month away, usually occurring around September 12th.

Sunshine and intense summer heat are making for dry conditions

When it comes to tropical development, there are three areas to watch. One being in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean. As of right now, there is an area of low pressure in the eastern central Atlantic off the coast of Africa that is currently named Invest 97L.
