Auburn football secured its 12th commitment last weekend with the addition of four-star wide receiver Jase Mathews.

During his commitment announcement, Mathews initially picked up an Ole Miss hat before tossing it aside and choosing the Auburn one.

Mathews had high interest from conference rivals like the Rebels, LSU and Texas A&M. Landing him was a huge recruiting win for the Tigers as they shot up to 54th in the country, according to 247sports team rankings.

In addition, it also shined the light on the recruiting impact wide receivers coach Marcus Davis has had on Auburn since joining Auburn coach Hugh Freeze’s staff.

Davis was a standout wide receiver for the Tigers from 2013-2016. As a freshman, he helped Auburn win a conference title and appearance in the BCS National Championsh
