MACON, Ga. — Georgia is among the top three states where the highest percentage of auto loans have monthly payments over $1,000, according to a recent study by LendingTree .
The reason? The study suggests that larger areas make cars more important, adding to the number of car loans in the Peach State.
"Outside of the giant metros, you're in car-and-truck country," LendingTree says.
The study found that 11.6% of Georgians have car payments above $1,000 a month.
They say that these expensive car payments are pretty common.
Almost 9% of Americans had at least one monthly payment of $1,000 or more in the first quarter of 2025, according to the study.
They also say that Gen Xers are "driving the biggest auto loan payments" and that higher credit scores are "linked to larger auto loan
