A Washington mom wasn't sure at first of spending $45 on a swimsuit for her daughter during a trip to the water park.
Shelby, who did not share her last name, posted a clip on TikTok (@shelbsterrrr), explaining that her 12-year-old daughter felt uncomfortable in her swimsuit, so they went to the gift shop to find swim shorts. When nothing in her daughter's size was available except a pink swim dress, Shelby balked at the price.
Instead, she handed her daughter a pair of boys' swim shorts—cheaper, practical and, in her mind, good enough. But then she paused.
"I was thinking about if she was wearing something that made her feel uncomfortable, she would associate an uncomfortable memory with being at the waterpark for her first time," Shelby told Newsweek .
