Prosecutors and police will reveal on Monday how they plan to pump the brakes on street takeovers in Los Angeles after years of driving stunts, mayhem at busy intersections and other crimes stemming from the illegal gatherings that draw large crowds of spectators.

LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman and other authorities will speak at a news conference about what's being done to stop the takeovers, which block intersections and even freeways with drivers performing burnouts, slides and other stunts. Beyond the spectacle, some takeovers have been connected to looting by large groups of criminals at nearby stores and other crimes.
