SHELBY COUNTY, Mo. (WGEM) - A National Weather Service team is tentatively scheduled to head to Shelby County, Missouri, Monday to survey damage from an overnight storm.
This will determine whether the damage was caused by straight-line winds or an actual tornado.
Residents Rose and Richard Copenhaver, who live on a farm by Leonard, Missouri, said they were at home when the storm occurred.
“It was raining really hard and the wind was blowing,” Rose Copenhaver said. “And then all of a sudden, it sounded like a freight train.”
Before they knew it, the couple felt the house lifting off of the ground.
“I said, ‘We need to get to the bathroom,’” Rose Copenhaver said. “By the time I got up, it was over.”
The aftermath of the storm left behind damaged farm equipment, a torn-up shed that was
