NEW YORK (PIX11) – President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he's taking over the police department in Washington, D.C. and is deploying the National Guard into the city.
Trump cited the Home Rule Act in his announcement and declared “that special conditions of an emergency nature exist,” which allows him to temporarily control the Metropolitan Police Department.
“Our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged-out maniacs and homeless people, and we’re not going to let it happen anymore. We’re not going to take it,” Trump said during his announcement.
"New York has a problem," Trump added.
