(NewsNation) — Officials said an explosion at a U.S. Steel plant in Clairton, Pennsylvania, left several people injured and many more trapped under the rubble.

The Allegheny County Emergency Services said a fire at the plant started around 10:51 a.m. Monday at the Clairton Coke Works and that five people were taken to the hospital. The agency did not provide additional details and only said that it was an “active scene.”

The county's director of communications said there has been no confirmed deaths at the plant.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said state police have been in touch with local first responders and are offering assistance in the aftermath of the explosion.

"Please join Lori and me in praying for the Clairton community," Shapiro said in a post on Facebook.
