PAWTUCKET — Fans showed up to Centreville Bank Stadium looking for fireworks and the fans got what they wanted — provided they stuck around after Rhode Island FC ’s match on Saturday, Aug. 9, against Loudoun United FC was over.
RIFC isn’t in “must-win” territory quite yet, but earning only one point against Loudoun felt like a missed opportunity, which makes sense considering how many chances the home team squandered. RIFC was clearly the better team in the first half but couldn’t convert any offensive opportunities, struggled to create much in the second half and survived a couple by Loudoun in a scoreless tie on Saturday night.
“I’m disappointed not to score,” RIFC coach Khano Smith said. “I think we created some half chances, but they’re a good team and difficult to get the ball off
