LOS ANGELES — Less than a week after federal immigration agents used an unmarked rental van to conduct arrests at a Home Depot in Los Angeles, immigrant rights activists in the city plan to kick off 24 hours of community action.
Starting at 11:59 p.m. Monday, a coalition of community organizations will hold rallies and encourage individuals to boycott a handful of mainstream retailers they say are complicit in enforcement activities. They say consumers should support immigrant-owned businesses instead.
“We know that for us to affirm our rights, we have to use every power we have, and one of those powers is our economic power,” Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights LA Executive Director Angelica Salas said during a rally Thursday announcing the “Reclaim Our Power to Stop the Trump Terror”
