KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) - The suspect in custody in connection to the Avalon Fishing Pier shooting, Henry Lee Hargis, has been charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury Monday, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Kill Devil Hills Assistant Chief of Police Dana Harris said they received reports of shots fired at the pier around 2:37 a.m. July 31, and found one person, 16-year-old Zane Hughes, dead on scene.

Police found another person, a 15-year-old, suffering from gunshot wounds and they were flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.
